21504-04-36-05-02 Bently Nevada Probe Proximity Vibration

    Description

The Bently Nevada 21504-04-36-05-02is designed to measure shaft displacement / proximity (gap) and/or vibration of rotating machinery in industrial applications (e.g., turbines, compressors, motors, turbines

in oil & gas, power generation). It is part of the 7200 Transducer System which interfaces with Bently Nevada monitors and protection systems. A proximity probe of this type

converts the changing gap between the probe tip and the target (rotating shaft or machine part) into an electrical signal that is then processed by the downstream

monitoring module. For vibration monitoring, the changing gap essentially corresponds to vibration amplitude. The probe must be mounted in a proper

housing or mounting point, oriented correctly, with recommended gap and alignment according to Bently’s specifications.

    FAQ

    Q1: What mounting is required?
A: Proper mounting is critical. The probe must screw into a precision mounting thread (typically 3/8-24 UNF for 8 mm version), be aligned with the target, have proper clearance and secure fastening. The unthreaded length (40 mm) must fit the bore so that when mounted the tip sits at the correct distance from the target. The machine housing must provide enough length (360 mm case length) so the body of the probe doesn’t interfere with other components. The cable must be routed properly without undue stress, bending near the connector.

Q2: What shaft diameter / machine target is this probe suitable for?
A: Because this probe is an 8 mm standard‐mount type (typical for many 7200 series 8 mm probes), it is suitable for machines where an 8 mm probe diameter and standard mount threading (often 3/8-24 UNF) are compatible. You must check the actual mounting hole, the thread, bore depth and ensure the “unthreaded length / overall length” match the machine’s mounting geometry. Also you must ensure the probe tip clearance to target and cable routing are appropriate.

Q3: What clearance (gap) between probe tip and shaft is required?
A: The specific gap depends on the system/monitor and target geometry. For 7200 series probes a typical gap range might be ~0.25 mm to 2.0 mm for certain configurations. For example, for the model 21504-04-12-05-02 (a similar 7200-series 8 mm probe) the spec sheet lists “Range: 0.25mm to 2.0mm”. You will want to check the official Bently Nevada datasheet for your exact probe installation to select the correct gap and calibrate accordingly.

Q4: Can this probe measure vibration? Or only proximity/displacement?
A: Yes — proximity probes are commonly used for both displacement (gap) measurement and vibration. When mounted to measure the gap between the probe tip and a rotating shaft, any vibration of the shaft causes the gap to fluctuate; downstream electronics convert that to vibration amplitude or velocity signals. So although the probe is labeled “Proximity / Vibration” it works by displacement measurement but is used for vibration monitoring. The 7200 Transducer System is used for such applications.
